Your third molars are often better known as “wisdom teeth.” These large teeth at the back of your mouth usually erupt last, between the ages of 17 and 25. They may also erupt later or not at all.
Some people are lucky enough that their wisdom teeth settle in happily and don’t cause any discomfort or crowding. However, a wisdom tooth that is impacted under the gums can cause considerable pain or make it difficult to open your mouth.
There are a variety of treatments for impacted wisdom teeth, from a small cut in the gums to help the wisdom tooth grow out right through to extraction.
