Platinum No Gap

Your smile is important to us at Bupa Dental Maleny. Our highly trained and caring dentists help patients of all ages to maintain good oral health for life.

We know some people feel nervous about visiting the dentist. That's why we've made our dental clinic a friendly and fun place to be – from our bubbly staff to the relaxing views of the bird feeders outside. We want you to enjoy every part of your dental visit, so you won't delay your appointments and our dentists have the chance to spot signs of oral health problems at an early stage when they can be easier to treat.

When you visit our clinic for a check-up, we'll use the latest equipment including digital x-rays and intraoral cameras to get a complete view of your mouth, so we can develop your personalised oral health plan.

If you have an oral health issue that needs to be addressed, we'll discuss all the treatment options we offer, so you can choose the one that's right for you or your child. Our professional dentists and prosthetists are skilled in a wide range of dental treatments, from implants and orthodontics to cosmetic treatments such as teeth whitening. Every procedure is tailored to your individual needs.

We love living and working in our community in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, and we're proud to be helping local people make positive changes to their oral health. Come and visit us any time at Bupa Dental Maleny, so we can help you and your family to look after your smiles.

Dr Julian Leigh

Dr Julian Leigh

Our principal dentist, Dr Julian Leigh is an experienced practitioner and an accomplished leader. Dentistry is a tradition in his family (he’s a fourth-generation dentist!) but changing people’s lives for the better was what ultimately attracted Dr Leigh to his profession. Recognising that each patient is unique, he cites the variety of people’s needs as one of the most fascinating parts of his job.

Dr Leigh has a special interest in oral surgery, wisdom teeth, dental implants and complex treatment needs. He is committed to continued learning and keeps up with the latest dental developments, techniques and technology. He is a member of the Australian Dental Association and the Australian Society of Implant Dentistry.

Dr Leigh has always stressed the importance of preventive care, noting that, “We can certainly help you, but your future dental needs depend heavily on your own efforts at home.” As a result, our clinic has a strong focus on helping you understand the best ways to care for your teeth and gums at home and lower your risk of needing more intensive dental care later on.

“Dentist” isn’t the only title on Dr Leigh’s CV - he’s also a farmer and auxiliary firefighter. For fun, he enjoys trail bike riding and restoring old cars.

Dr Ben Schottlander

Dr Ben Schottlander

Dr Ben Schottlander had an early interest in dentistry after he was inspired by his own dentist growing up. Since Dr Schottlander always enjoyed working with his hands, a career in dentistry seemed like a perfect fit. After earning his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at Otago University, he began a career built on a wide range of experience.

Dr Schottlander is especially interested in digital dentistry, ceramics like crowns and bridges, and implant dentistry. He is a major advocate for continued learning, so he regularly keeps up with the latest in dental technology, which he believes is one of the best ways to continue improving our standard of care. He is a member of the Australian Dental Association and the International Team for Implantology.

Even when he’s not in our clinic, Dr Schottlander has a passion for helping people – he works for the Queensland Fire Service as a part-time Auxillary Urban Firefighter. He also likes to go camping and four-wheel driving.

Dr Matthew Wong

Dr Matthew Wong

Dr Matthew Wong is known for his gentle and friendly nature, as well as his ability to explain aspects of dentistry in a way that is easy to understand. Matthew’s aim is to work with you to find solutions that fit your goals and lifestyle.

Matthew was First in Course for his Dentistry degree and was awarded the Australian Dental Association Prize and the Head of School Nomination Prize. He is always willing to learn more and be at the forefront of dentistry to ensure that he can provide the most efficient and economic solutions to obtain the best results for you.

Most importantly, Matthew aims to ensure you are well cared for throughout every visit, especially if you are feeling anxious or nervous. He will take the time to help you understand the different solutions and work with you to find what is best for you.
