About our clinic
At Bupa Dental Mayfield, we're dedicated to permanently improving oral health in our local community and beyond. We have families ourselves, so we know that encouraging good habits in childhood is important for maintaining a healthy smile for life.
We want people of all ages to feel comfortable and relaxed in our clinic, whether you're visiting us for the first time or you're coming in for your regular check-up. Dr Garruth Andrews

Dr Garruth Andrews
Dr Garruth Andrews graduated in 2010 from the University of Bristol in England. Since then Garruth spent 5 years working in London at a mixed NHS and Private practice as well as the Bank of England, before migrating to Newcastle in 2015.
Garruth enjoys all aspects of treatment and care in clinical Dentistry while always looking to improve and build on existing techniques and knowledge. Specific interests include Restorative, Aesthetic and Preventative treatments.
Outside of work Garruth enjoys football, rugby, cooking and reading.
Dr Daniel Ghaly
Dr Daniel Ghaly
Dr Ghaly comes from a medical background after having graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine from Newcastle University in 2003. Daniel then decided to follow his interest in dentistry and completed a Bachelor of Dentistry from the University of Sydney in 2011. He has previously undertaken work within the department of surgery at John Hunter Hospital, within General, Trauma and Oral and Maxillofacial surgical specialities. Although he continues to work as a GP locally, he enjoys his role as a dentist at Bupa Dental Mayfield.
Dr Ghaly has a very professional and reassuring nature and communicates with care and honesty to all his patients. Daniel has a willingness to continually learn and develop his skills and has special attention to detail during each and every treatment.
His special interest is in oral surgery, implant placement and crown and bridge cases. Daniel's hours allow him to see some patients during evening hours as well as some Saturdays by appointment.
Dr Tapiwa Gwengo
Dr Tapiwa Gwengo
Dr Gwengo is a graduate of the prestigious University of Otago in New Zealand, obtaining his Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree in 2006. In the years following graduation he sought out mentorship and experience in a broad range of dental fields including porcelain veneers, bondings, fillings, crowns, bridges, dental implants, Invisalign, build-ups of worn dentition, root-canal treatment, surgical extractions and wisdom tooth removal.
He believes that dentistry can be an enriching experience and that the best care of any patient begins with their dentist listening and understanding their concerns and requirements, and tailoring treatment to each individual. Dr Gwengo engages with all his patients in a composed, professional, thoughtful and respectful manner.
Being a meticulous perfectionist he strives for the best possible outcome in any treatment he delivers. His kind, caring and honest approach is something his patients appreciate.
Dr Gwengo was highly commended for his performance in the Primary Examination by the examiners of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons(RACDS). He is now pursuing a Full Fellowship with the RACDS by examination. A desire to continually enhance and add to his skills as a dentist has led him to attend courses around the world.
Prosthetist
Mark Stuart
Mark Stuart
Mark has over 10 years' experience within the dental industry. He is extremely passionate about all aspects of prosthetic work with a special interest in creating natural looking dentures to suit individual smiles as well as creating custom sports mouthguards and Implant
Mark works as an independent practitioner across both Bupa Dental locations in Belmont and Mayfield. By working directly with his patients, he can create the ideal fit and appearance of prosthetics and help reduce waiting times. His services allow for health fund rebates and a prior referral is not required.
As a family
Mark is a born-and-bred Novocastrian who loves the coastal lifestyle Newcastle has to offer. In his free time, he enjoys surfing and spending time at the beach with his family.
Hygienists
Haley Gibson
Haley Gibson
Hayley has worked within the dental industry for over 14 years, starting out as a dental assistant before training as a dental hygienist. Graduating from the University of Newcastle in 2010, she has since worked in both general and specialist periodontal practices.
A born-and-bred Novocastrian, Hayley’s primary focus is to educate and assist her patients to achieve good oral health and a smile they can be proud of.
In her free time, Hayley enjoys spending time at the beach with her husband, son and border collie dog.
Helen Fuller
Helen Fuller
After graduating from the University of Newcastle in 2008 with a Bachelor of Oral Health, Helen was quickly employed and has gained significant experience as a dental hygienist. Her previous position was with a large regional practice in Armidale, NSW.
In addition to treatment, Helen is passionate about her work as a preventative oral health practitioner. She actively educates people about how they can manage and improve their own oral health. Helen applies a more holistic treatment approach so patients can understand the relationship between their mouth and their body and how one can impact the other. She imparts sufficient knowledge to patients so they can actively manage this relationship and either prevent or minimise oral disease. Empowering people with the skills to achieve better oral health forms a large part of Helen's dedication to preventative oral health care.
Helen acknowledges the stress some patients experience with dental visits but her caring nature puts patients at ease. All her patients get the same level of respect, dignity, empathy and attention. When not at work, Helen enjoys walking, music and photography.
