At Bupa Dental Mayfield, we're dedicated to permanently improving oral health in our local community and beyond. We have families ourselves, so we know that encouraging good habits in childhood is important for maintaining a healthy smile for life.

We want people of all ages to feel comfortable and relaxed in our clinic, whether you're visiting us for the first time or you're coming in for your regular check-up. Our friendly team always work to make you feel welcome and we're happy to answer any questions you have about your examination, your treatment or anything else that's on your mind.

Your complete oral health assessment gives our dentists the chance to check the condition of your teeth, gums and jaw in detail, and may involve the use of x-rays. We'll also professionally clean and polish your teeth and recommend any treatments that may be needed to improve or maintain your oral health.

We take the time to care for all of our patients, and we'll design an oral health plan that's personalised to your needs and goals – whether that means a custom mouthguard, teeth whitening or in-house dental implants. If you have anxiety about visiting the dentist, we offer a range of sedation options to help you feel calm and make sure you get the treatment you need.

Our dental clinic is easy to find at 93 Maitland Road in northern Newcastle, just five minutes' drive from Waratah station. Visit us during business hours or call us to make an appointment. We're looking forward to seeing you soon at Bupa Dental Mayfield.

Dr Gwengo is a graduate of the prestigious University of Otago in New Zealand, obtaining his Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree in 2006. In the years following graduation he sought out mentorship and experience in a broad range of dental fields including porcelain veneers, bondings, fillings, crowns, bridges, dental implants, Invisalign, build-ups of worn dentition, root-canal treatment, surgical extractions and wisdom tooth removal.

He believes that dentistry can be an enriching experience and that the best care of any patient begins with their dentist listening and understanding their concerns and requirements, and tailoring treatment to each individual. Hygienists

Haley Gibson

Haley Gibson

Hayley has worked within the dental industry for over 14 years, starting out as a dental assistant before training as a dental hygienist. Graduating from the University of Newcastle in 2010, she has since worked in both general and specialist periodontal practices.

A born-and-bred Novocastrian, Hayley’s primary focus is to educate and assist her patients to achieve good oral health and a smile they can be proud of.

In her free time, Hayley enjoys spending time at the beach with her husband, son and border collie dog.

Helen Fuller

Helen Fuller

After graduating from the University of Newcastle in 2008 with a Bachelor of Oral Health, Helen was quickly employed and has gained significant experience as a dental hygienist. Her previous position was with a large regional practice in Armidale, NSW.

In addition to treatment, Helen is passionate about her work as a preventative oral health practitioner. She actively educates people about how they can manage and improve their own oral health. Helen applies a more holistic treatment approach so patients can understand the relationship between their mouth and their body and how one can impact the other. She imparts sufficient knowledge to patients so they can actively manage this relationship and either prevent or minimise oral disease. Empowering people with the skills to achieve better oral health forms a large part of Helen's dedication to preventative oral health care.

Helen acknowledges the stress some patients experience with dental visits but her caring nature puts patients at ease. All her patients get the same level of respect, dignity, empathy and attention. When not at work, Helen enjoys walking, music and photography.
